Our Story in Lassen County

Built to bring safety, dignity, and real support

Since 1979, Lassen Family Services has existed for one clear reason: people in our community deserve a safe place to turn when life becomes unsafe at home or in a relationship. Over the years, our programs have grown to meet real needs in a rural, high-desert county—where distance, privacy, and limited resources can make it harder to reach help. We’ve stayed focused on practical support that protects choice and restores control. Today, we continue to stand alongside survivors and families with steady care and clear next steps.

From hospital accompaniment to court support, from emergency shelter to longer-term housing help, our work is rooted in the day-to-day realities people face here. We partner closely with local hospitals, law enforcement, courts, and service providers to help survivors navigate systems that can feel overwhelming. No one should have to figure out safety, paperwork, or procedures alone—especially in a moment of crisis. We aim to make support feel human, respectful, and possible.

Why We Exist

Prevention, healing, advocacy, and safety

Lassen Family Services exists to support survivors and strengthen families through safety-focused advocacy, education, and community connection. We work to prevent violence, respond quickly when harm happens, and help people rebuild after trauma with practical, compassionate support. That includes crisis intervention, shelter and housing services, legal advocacy, and ongoing case management—always centered on choice and dignity. We also invest in community education because lasting change includes prevention and a culture of respect.

Support for Many Situations, One Goal

Helping people regain safety and stability

We support survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, elders (60+) and dependent adults (18+) impacted by abuse, and families seeking parenting and stability-building support. We also serve children in foster care through CASA advocacy, helping ensure their needs and best interests are represented. Across every program, confidentiality and privacy are treated with care—your information is handled respectfully, and we use reenactment photos to protect identities. Whether you need immediate help or steady support over time, you will be met with compassion, clarity, and choices you control.
